5 People Shot in Bushwick, New York City: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

According ABC New York, at least five people have been hospitalized after a shooting in the Bushwick section of Brooklyn.

Here’s what you need to know.


1. Five People Have Been Shot

Reports are still varying as to how many people have been shot but it now appears that five people have been shot, ABC New York is saying four, whereas NBC New York is saying five.

Gothamist is reporting that three males and one female are among the victims.


2. At Least Two People Are Critically Injured

NBC New York is reporting that five people have been taken to Elmhurst, Kings County and Brookdale Hospitals, two with critical injuries, two with non-life threatening injuries.


3. The Gunman is Still at Large

The shooting took place in Hope Park, at 195 Menahan Street (see above). The exact circumstances were not immediately known. NYPD are believed to have found the gun used in the shooting at the scene, but the gunman is still on the loose.

Formerly a hotspot for violent crime, the neighborhood experienced a whopping 77 murders in 1990, Bushwick has undergone a near-total transformation with a thriving artistic and music community moving there throughout the last decade.

This comes on the same day that thousands of New Yorkers are marching across the Brooklyn Bridge in protest against gun crime and the killing of Trayvon Martin.
