Report: American-Born Jihadist Rapper Killed in Somali Shootout

Omar Hammami, the American-born jihadist rapper in Somalia who had been aiding the fight against the government for the radical Islamist al-Shabaab faction since 2006, is rumored to have been killed in a shootout with his former comrades, reports ABC News. Hammami is believed to have been shot by al-Shabaab near the southern Somali settlement of Bardhere.

Although he has been reported dead in the past, an American terrorism expert who has been in contact with Hammami told ABC News that today’s reports are “very likely true.”

Hammami was ostracized from al-Shabaab in 2012.

“Harakat Al-Shabaab Al-Mujahideen hereby declares that Abu Mansur Al-Amriki does not, in any way, shape or form, represent the views of the Muhajireen in Somalia,” tweeted the terror group. “…narcissistic pursuit of fame and are far removed from the reality on the ground.”

The wannabe rapper was known for trying to recruit people to the terror organization through his raps. A $5 million capture bounty was placed on Hammami by the FBI.
