A nurse has been killed during a terrifying mass stabbing at the Good Shepherd Medical Center in Longview, Texas, reports WTVM. The stabbing occurred at 7 a.m. local time.

A man, armed with a hunting knife, was roaming the halls of the medical center shouting: “You’re not going to kill my mother,” according to reports.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. In Total, 5 People Have Been Stabbed

In addition to the one nurse who has been killed, another hospital employee is in critical condition.


2. The Suspect Has Been Arrested

A man has been taken into custody in relation the crime. His identity has not been reveal nor has it been said if he was a visitor or employee. KTSM reports that he entered the building alone at Ambulatory Surgical Center entrance. A report by WECT states that the man was running around the hospital, armed with a hunting knife, shouting: “You’re not going to kill my mother.”

According to the Long View Police, the suspect fled the hospital but was arrested close by.


3. The Conditions of the Other Victims are Unknown

The three others injured in the stabbing are no employees of the hospital.


4. One Family Recounted the Horror

Speaking to KLTV, one family said they were waiting for their 6-year-old daughter to go in for surgery. They witnessed a man stabbing another man. There were screams and panic, the family said that the man looked right at the family and did nothing before continuing on his rampage.


5. The Hospital has Been in Longview for Over 70 Years

The Good Shepherd Medical Center is Longview, Texas’ largest employer with 2,400 workers. he hospital’s ER remains open and is accepting patients.
