A body, believed to be that of Khalil Tatum, was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound at a park in Washington D.C., according to WUSA-9.

1. Rudd Was Last Seen With Tatum

Relisha Rudd, 8, has been missing since March 1. She was last seen with Tatum. He had been working as a janitor at the homeless shelter where Rudd and her mother had been living. Relisha Rudd and her mother, Shamika Young, 27, had been staying at a shelter that’s run by the Community Partnership for the Prevention of Homelessness. The center had said that social interactions between shelter staff and guests was forbidden, but The Washington Post reports that that rule was frequently ignored.

2. Cops Have Been Searching the Area Around the Kenilworth Aquatic Gardens Since Last Week

The park where Tatum may have been found dead, in Kenilworth Park in D.C. was being searched by authorities since last week.

4. Tatum Was Often Seen With Rudd

According to The Washington Post, Tatum was known to spend time with young girls at the shelter, even giving them $20 bills on occasion. After Rudd was abducted, Tatum posed as a doctor to excuse her from school, reports CBS DC.

5. Police Described the Search For Rudd as a ‘Recovery Mission’

Cops announced on March 27 that while the remained hopeful that Rudd would be found alive, the search had become a “recovery mission.” The search involved over 100 members of various law-enforcement agencies and was centered around Northeast Washington. CBS DC reported that at one point the search extended as far as Atlanta where Tatum had ties.
