‘We Are One’ is official song of the 2014 FIFA World Cup this summer. Interestingly enough, though, it hasn’t received an overwhelmingly positive response from the public. The Sydney Morning Herald reported that fans keep slamming the song because they don’t know why Cuban-American Pitbull and Puerto Rican singer J-Lo were picked to record it when so many other Brazilian singers would have been better contenders. On top of that, people are mad that it’s only performed in English and Spanish, since Leitte’s first language is Portuguese.

Despite the controversy, Leitte says she’s honored that she was chosen to perform for the World Cup.

How do I feel? Great honor. Honor is the word.

She told FIFA,

The most people I’ve sung for before was two million or so the New Year’s Eve before last, so you can imagine how it feels now that we’re talking about a billion, and a lot of people never experience something like that. But it’s better not to think about it. I’m just thankful for it.

2. She Did a Song With Ricky Martin

Leitte and Ricky Martin recorded a song called Samba together. Interestingly enough, Martin was the first artist to record a song for the World Cup,  The Cup of Life, that had a wide musical impact.

During her solo career, Leitte sold over 1 million records. She has also received a bunch of awards like the Latin Grammy Best Brazilian Pop Album, Best Brazilian Female Singer Award, and Best Band Award.

Leitte started her career singing in bars and working with many axe music bands, and by age 13 was a professional, performing in trios elétricos.

She has been the main vocalist of a Salvador-based band called Babado Novo since 2001, which has released five albums. It’s first release sold more than 90,000 copies, earning it the Gold disc.

3. She’s A Judge On Brazil’s ‘The Voice’

To date, Leitte is one of the most followed celebrities on the Internet in Brazil. She has over 16 million internet fans and charges between $450,000 and $600,000 for each performance.

Claudia is considered, along with Ivete Sangalo, the largest and most powerful Brazilian artists.

After the show had run for two seasons, Leitte was invited to be a judge on Brazil’s ‘The Voice’. So far, she admits to having a great time on the show. She enjoys helping other people pursue her dream, since she had a similar one as a little girl.

4. She Upset Fans When She Secretly Renewed Wedding Vows With Her Husband

Leitte is married to Marcio Quarry, an entrepreneur who she recently renewed her wedding vows with in a secret ceremony that upset fans. The two met in high school, and have been married for seven years. She described her husband as being the popular boy in school when they were younger– completely uninterested in Leitte. Leitte and Marcio got engaged in 2006, and she was pregnant with her first son, David, by 2008. The couple announced the birth of their second son, David, in 2012.

Their wedding ceremony took place at a hotel in Salvador, Bahia. Her dress was inspired what her grandmother Nilza wore during her wedding so many years before.

Leitte told Pure People she wants to try acting– she just needs to find the time. Before performing with Lopez and Pitbull, the artist revealed that she rarely never gets nervous.

I’m not nervous, I’m fine. I’m very aware and very quiet, very happy. Every show I do is a different emotion.

Claudia is asked to work on the small screen nearly every day, and while she wants to act in a play or Brazilian drama, she’d also like to be a TV presenter. She will not drop her music career if she does pursue an acting career, though.

So far, Leitte has only had small roles in soap operas.
