18-year-old Jaycob Curlee may have had a rough childhood, but his future looks bright. The singer hails from Alabama, and has been in and out of foster care his whole life. He’s one of 48 acts that advanced to the live shows at Radio City, and will be performing Tuesday night in the hopes of progressing to the semifinals.

1. He Has Over 21 Thousand Twitter Followers
One time I had Spanish class with @JaycobCurlee can I have 12million followers now?

Jaycob’s twitter blew up after his first performance on the premiere of AGT this summer. Girls were swooning, moms were cheering, and some people were mad that Justin Beiber ever became more famous than the talented teen. Since then, his number of followers has been steadily rising.

2. He Inspired A Girl Who Tried to Commit Suicide
If you’re a newfound fan of the Alabaman cutie, don’t be shy to tweet him or leave him a Facebook comment. Curlee has been retweeting posts by his fans, responding to comments, and following people on twitter to show his appreciation for everyone. Looks like the singer is just as humble as he appears to be on screen.
When Curlee recently spoke to AL, he said he’s been spending a majority of his time writing letters to fans that have reached out to him. He says everything has been “crazy in a good way” and ultimately, his main goal is to inspire people.
One thing that really struck me is that a lot of them have gone through similar situations, if not worse situations than I have. I write all my fans back. I make sure I write everyone back. It’s really uplifting to know that I’ve helped those people through those times. Like this one girl, she tried to commit suicide six times, and when she saw my audition, she said it turned around for her.
Curlee has received a lot of support from his own community in Daphne since being featured on the show.
I love that @JaycobCurlee always tweets his fans?

3. His Parents Spent Time in Jail
“My parents weren’t exactly what you’d call model parents.” When he was a child, Curlee’s parents were druggies who spent time in prison. Since the age of five, he and his sister have been in and out of foster care, desperate for a family to love them. Curlee says that visitation periods became horrible when he was growing up once his parents decided to stop visiting him, but he never gave up hope that they’d come back to see him. He constantly begged to be adopted in his younger years, hoping that any couple who gave him the smallest of smiles would take him in. Curlee was eventually adopted when he was eight by a couple he’s extremely happy with.
The one thing that got me through judgment week was my mom. She is and always will be the number one woman in my life. @CurleeKatherine

4. He Wants to Raise Money for Adoption Agencies
Curlee has already spoken to one adoption organization, and says if he comes out of America’s Got Talent with any fame, he hopes to spend time helping other kids in his situation. He told AL,
If I become really big, I would love to help out with adoption organizations like that, and raise money and do benefit concerts and things.
5. His Friends and Family Have Been Posting Non-Stop Support
— Jaclyn Smith (@_JaclynSmith) May 28, 2014
Curlee’s twitter page is crowded with images of him with former classmates, friends, and family members all showering him with love and support. He seems to be quite a popular kid, and comments by friends praise how awesome he is.
