After more than 70 minutes of scoreless action Monday, Mexico poured it on, scoring three goals in less than eight minutes en route to a riveting 3-1 win over Croatia and a spot in the World Cup knockout round.

Here’s how it went down:

Rafael Marquez Scored on a Header to Put Mexico on the Board

Given that Mexico needed only a draw to advance, the Mexicans’ chances of moving on went from good to nearly a sure thing when Marquez scored on a header in the 73rd minute. It was the first of an onslaught of offense.

Adreas Guardado Scored Just Minutes Later

Andres Guardado scored the second goal for Mexico just minutes later to put Mexico up 2-0.

Javier Hernandez Put in the Dagger

Javier Hernandez put in a header to put Mexico in a 3-0. Croatia added a goal in garbage time against Mexico keeper Guillermo Ochoa, but it was too little, too late.
