Seattle Pacific Shooting: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

One person is dead and multiple people were injured when a gunman walked into a building, Otto Miller Hall in Seattle Pacific University and began shooting, according to the Seattle Police Department. . After firing a number of times, the suspect was disarmed by members of staff as he reloaded.

Tomorrow was due to be the last day of classes for the academic year at the school. Most students on campus at the time of the shooting were studying for finals.

1. One Person is Dead

Four people have been shot on the campus, according to the Seattle PD. A man has life-threatening injuries, one woman also is in critical condition, a man and a woman are in stable condition. Some media reports indicate there may be two more victims in the attack. KING 5 News reported that one of the victim died in hospital.

According to Fox Seattle, paramedics were seen giving CPR to one victim on the campus. That person was then rushed to hospital. KOMO News has tweeted that there may be as many as seven victims at the scene. At least one of the victims was shot in the eye.

2. The Suspect Was Taken Alive

One suspect was taken into custody just after the shooting. Less than an hour later, Fox Seattle reported that police were no longer looking for a second suspect. The station further reported that a student pepper sprayed the shooter in the eye. The suspect is described as a white male in his 20s. He was disarmed by “university staff” as he was reloading.

The weapon used in the attack was reported to be a shotgun. Witnesses commented on the high number of shotgun shells scattered around the area.

The suspect drove his parent’s car to the college on the day of the shooting.

3. The School is Affiliated With the Free Methodist Church

The school is a private Christian college. There are just over 4,000 students enrolled at the school. The school is affiliated with the Free Methodist Church.

4. The School Was on Lockdown for 2 Hours

The Otto Miller Hall building where the shooting took place was evacuated, the rest of the school was evacuated. Shots were first reported at 3:30 p.m. local time at 3rd Avenue West around the school. Students were notified about the shooting from a mass text alert from school officials.

5. The Seattle Storm Were on Campus

The Seattle Storm, the city’s professional women’s basketball team were on the campus at the time of the shooting. The team were training on the campus. All members of the team are accounted for and being locked down.
