David Cawthorne Haines Dead: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

ISIS has released a video showing the beheading of British aid worker David Cawthorne Haines.

Here’s what you need to know about Haines, his brutal execution, and the threats made in the video:

1. Haines’ Execution Carries Out a Threat Made in the Last ISIS Beheading Video

Haines was seen at the end of the Steven Sotloff beheading video, with a threat that he would be the next execution victim. Sotloff had appeared at the end of the James Foley execution video, with a similar threat. ISIS made good on the threat to execute Sotloff, and has now done the same with Haines.

ISIS released the Haines video today, Saturday, September 13, via Twitter. The setting and tone of the video match the videos of Foley and Sotloff. The video includes the same executioner.

According to SITE Intelligence Group, the video, titled “A Message to the Allies of America,” was “produced by the IS’ al-Furqan Media Foundation” and posted to Twitter.

2. Haines Delivers a Statement Blaming David Cameron

As in the Foley and Sotloff videos, Haines delivers an apparently forced statement blaming his country’s administration for the execution he is facing. “You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the United States against the Islamic State …” he says, speaking directly to British Prime Minister David Cameron. Foley and Sotloff were forced to deliver messages to President Obama.

The hooded executioner, who also appeared in the Foley and Sotloff videos, then delivers threats to Cameron.

Below is a transcript of the video, via Brown Moses:

DAVID HAINES: My name is David Cawthorne Haines. I would like to declare that I hold you, David Cameron, entirely responsible for my execution. You entered voluntarily into a coalition with the United States against the Islamic State, just as you’re predecessor, Tony Blair, did. Following a trend amongst our British Prime Ministers who can’t find the courage to say no to the Americans. Unfortunately, it is we, the British public, that will in the end pay the price for our Parliaments selfish decisions.

EXECUTIONER: This British man has to pay the price for your promise, Cameron, to arm the Peshmerga against the Islamic State. Ironically, he has spent a decade of his life serving under the same Royal Air Force that is responsible for delivering those arms. Your evil alliance with America which continues to strike the Muslims of Iraq and most recently bombed the Haditha Dam will only accelerate your destruction. And playing the role of the obedient lapdog, Cameron, will only drag you and your people into another bloody and unwinnable war.

EXECUTIONER: If you, Cameron, persist in fighting the Islamic State, then you, like your master Obama, will have the blood of your people on your hands.

Cameron issued a statement on Haines’ killing:

The murder of David Haines is an act of pure evil. My heart goes out to his family who have shown extraordinary courage and fortitude. We will do everything in our power to hunt down these murderers and ensure they face justice, however long it takes.
