A 16-year-old in Florida is being held on a $802,000 bail as he faces 93 counts of charges as disgusting as child porn possession and lascivious molestation. The teen, Jared Kyle Henry, hails from Plant City in western Florida.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. The Mounties Tipped Off Florida Police About Henry

According to a WFLA report, Henry was first discovered to have been promoting child porn in Canada. It was the Royal Mounted Police who tipped off the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that the computer promoting the porn, was coming from the Tampa-area. The tip-off came in September.

On October 1, a combined law-enforcement squad raided Henry’s home in Plant City and found numerous explicit images, says the WFLA report.

Later, on October 19, he was rearrested due to the emergence of evidence relating to lewd and lascivious molestation. During the course of the investigation, cops determined that Henry had molested a child in order to create pornographic images.


2. Cops Think There Could Be Further Victims

In total, Henry is facing 93 counts of possession of child pornography, which includes the promotion of a sexual performance by a child, and lewd and lascivious molestation, reports The Lakeland Ledger. He will be tried as an adult. According to Special Agent Michael Miller of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, there is a fear that there are more victims Henry’s alleged abuse.


3. He’s a Student at Plant City High School

WTSP reports that Plant City students were shocked at the allegations. Korey Jackson said, “It’s crazy. A 16-year-old like me is getting arrested for something crazy. I never thought that a 16-year-old would be doing that”


4. He Could Face 15 Years in Prison

According to Florida law, if convicted child pornography production charges, Henry could face 15 years in prison for each count. The possession charges carry a possible sentence of five years on each count. The two defenses for child porn possession in Florida are:

Lack of knowledge or bona fide mistake regarding the participation of a child is not a defense to the promotion of child pornography.

Entrapment by law enforcement officials might be a defense if the defendant can show that there was no predisposition to engage in the crime otherwise.

In August 2014, it was reported that a Lakeland, Florida, church volunteer Jay Bloodworth was found with child porn on his computer. The church that Bloodworth volunteered with was the Church on the Rock in Plant City, Florida. Bloodworth is awaiting trial on 28 counts of possession of child pornography.
