Best New DVD Releases and New Games This Week: 3/24/15

Another week, another slew of new DVDs, Blu-Rays and video games to conquer. This week ending March 24, 2015 brings a lot of big releases from 2014, including The Hobbit, a major PS4 exclusive, a major Wii U exclusive, and even a DVD release from Miley Cyrus (we don’t care about that, though).

All DVD and video game releases will be released on what I like to call New Media Tuesdays — in this case, March 24, 2015 — unless otherwise noted. You can check out last week’s releases here, and keep reading this article for the new DVD and game releases coming this week:



DVD New Releases

1. ‘Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies’

IMDB Rating: 7.6/10

Bilbo Baggins and pals are forced to engage in a war against an array of combatants and keep the Lonely Mountain from falling into the hands of a rising darkness. The film stars Ian McKellen as Gandalf and Martin Freeman as Bilbo Baggins.

 2. ‘Into The Woods’

IMDB Rating: 6.2/10

An impressive ensemble cast that includes Emily Blunt, Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Anna Kendrick and Chris Pine in a musical format. In Into the Woods, a witch tasks a childless baker and his wife with procuring magical items from classic fairy tales to reverse the curse put on their family tree.

 3. ‘Unbroken’

IMDB Rating: 7.1/10

Directed by Angelina Jolie, Unbroken is a harrowing tale of Olympian Louis Zamperini whom survived a near-fatal plane crash in WWII and was then caught by the Japanese Navy and sent to a prisoner-of-war camp. This unbelievable true story stars Jack O’Connell, Takamasa Ishihara and Domhall Gleeson. The film was nominated for three Oscars.

New Game Releases

1. ‘Mario Party 10’ (Wii U)

Mario makes his 2015 debut with Mario Party 10, and he’s bringing his friends along with him. Challenge your friends in tons of fun minigames, and you can even crash the party as Bowser this time around. The game has new modes and a wide variety of unique boards, and works with your amiibos.

2. ‘Bloodborne’ (PS4)

PS4 fans are dying for something formidable to play, and now they’ll have it with the release of a major PS4 exclusive, Bloodborne, which might turn out to be the biggest console exclusive of the year. Early gameplay looks great, and impressions from around the web from those that have played it sound promising.
