A teenager committed suicide in broad daylight at his high school just days after his cop father’s birthday. That teenager is Isaac Herrera. He killed himself at Seguin High School in Seguin, Texas, 35 miles east of San Antonio.

Here’s what you need to know:


1. In His Final Facebook Post, Herrera Wrote to His Dad ‘Sorry I Stress You Out All the Time’

In an appropriate Facebook post written three days before he took his own life, Herrera wrote:

happy birthday dad. i love you. not many people have their dads, especially in your line of profession, but i got you pops. and moms too. i love you dad. sorry i stress y’all out most of the time, but i guess y’all can say it’s fine. love you.

An hour after posting that, his father, Officer Carlos Herrera of the Seguin Police Department wrote “Thank you son! I love you and I want the best for you! I am happy with you as my child.” Shortly after new of Herrera’s suicide came out, Carlos Herrera went back to that posting to write “I love you kid!!!!!!!!!!”

On his Facebook page, Herrera wrote that he’s a native of Seguin. He’s a member of group “StonerSquad” on Facebook.

2. Herrera Was Seen ‘Leaning Against a Tree’ Prior to Shooting Himself

The school was on lockdown but all other students and staff were to be safe. In a statement on the school’s Facebook page it said “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a Seguin High School student was involved in what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning on campus. The campus was put on lockdown as a precautionary measure as Seguin Police Department and EMS are on campus, the student was transported via EMS to a hospital.” My San Antonio, quoting student Michael Gutierrez, reports that “He was just like leaning against a tree. Then he slumped to the ground and everybody started running to see what was up. A teacher told them to get back to class.”


3. Herrera’s Father Was Officer of the Year in Seguin

In 2013, Officer Carlos Herrera was voted the officer of the year at the Seguin Police Department. In the wake of the shooting, a Go Fund Me page has been set up for Officer Herrera and his wife, Cassie. The description of that page read:

As I sit here trying to come up with the right words, it’s not easy:
A few months back Cassie Herrera started a Go Fund Me for a fellow Police Officer and it was a success!
I remember she stated, it was her calling to start this fund, Now I know the feeling of what she meant.
And sadly it’s time that “We Pay it Forward”!
Now it’s Our duty to come together as a Family as a Great Community that We are here in Seguin.
There is not a lot of details at this time, but what I do know is that The Herrera Family is Need! What I can say is, it’s one of there childern that needs help with medical cost and financial help for the up coming days.

5. A Seguin Teacher Is on the Local Most Wanted List for Having Sex With a Student

A teacher from the school, Shannon Rae Spradlin, is on the run from the law after she was found to be having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, reports My San Antonio. The 32-year-old teacher was absconded after she was found to have violated her probation when she was found with the 17-year-old student during a traffic stop, reports KSAT. She’s now on Guadalupe County’s Most Wanted list.
