It’s finally official! Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and R&B queen Ciara showed up hand-in-hand at the White House on Tuesday evening to go public with their A-list romance.
After playing it coy for days, the golden couple ended all the speculation by arriving together for a State Dinner laid on for President Obama and the Prime Minister of Japan.
Here’s what you need to know about the stunning new couple:
1. It Wasn’t The Best Kept Secret
They were first spotted together more than a week ago at a Mariners vs Rangers game and a bystander caught them grabbing a bite at the famous Pike Place market in Seattle. Then AOL.com published a partial guest list for a White House event which appeared to show the NFL star and the Grammy winner among the celebrities and dignitaries getting invited.
The Washington Post was among the media outlets reporting the love match.
However, one big question remained – which White House dinner was he planning to take Ciara to as his date?
2. But Russell Did His Best to Keep The New Romance Under Wraps Right to The End
The popular quarterback was determined not to give the game away when he was quizzed about his relationship to Ciara (see above).
He clearly didn’t want to make a fumble until he knew he was in the end zone.
3. He Didn’t Bring His Grandma This Time
Everyone assumed that Wilson – who got divorced last year from wife Ashton Meem after two years of marriage – would show up with Ciara at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner in DC at the weekend – but the quarterback took his grandmother instead.
Just to keep everyone guessing, the fleet-footed sportsman posted a video of him dancing with “Grandma Carolyn.”
When he was asked where his grandma was on Tuesday night, he replied: “She’s back in Virginia.”
4. No Christy Teigen Either
Wilson, 26, also ran into model Christy Teigen later at the correspondents dinner, fueling speculation that the gossips may have got the wrong girl. He was recently seen out and about with Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition model Samantha Hoopes as well, so it’s not like he was short of beautiful women to invite to the dinner.
But it seems Ciara, 29, is now his top pick. The R&B singer has previously dated rappers Bow Wo and 50 Cent as well as Future, with whom she has a son. She was also in a relationship with NBA star Amar’e Stoudemire.
5. Here’s How Russell and Ciara Went Public With Their Big Entrance
Wilson and Ciara commanded the lion’s share of attention at the White House gala, but there was no shortage of star power.
Also in attendance were Scandal showrunner Shonda Rhimes, Star Trek alum George Takei, U.S. Ambassador to Japan Caroline Kennedy, Vice President Joe Biden and wife Jill Biden, and of course, the hosts, President and Michelle Obama.
