A police officer’s son shot himself dead on the morning of April 17 on the campus of his Texas high school. The horror unfolded at Seguin High School. The town of Seguin is located 36 miles east of San Antonio. The student was identified on Twitter as Isaac Herrera.

1. A Seguin Teacher Is on the Local Most Wanted List for Having Sex With a Student

A teacher from the school, Shannon Rae Spradlin, is on the run from the law after she was found to be having a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, reports My San Antonio. The 32-year-old teacher was absconded after she was found to have violated her probation when she was found with the 17-year-old student during a traffic stop, reports KSAT. She’s now on Guadalupe County’s Most Wanted list.


2. The Student Was Seen ‘Leaning Against a Tree’ Prior to Shooting Himself

The school was on lockdown but all other students and staff were to be safe. In a statement on the school’s Facebook page it said “We are deeply saddened to confirm that a Seguin High School student was involved in what appears to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound this morning on campus. The campus was put on lockdown as a precautionary measure as Seguin Police Department and EMS are on campus, the student was transported via EMS to a hospital.” My San Antonio, quoting student Michael Gutierrez, reports that “He was just like leaning against a tree. Then he slumped to the ground and everybody started running to see what was up. A teacher told them to get back to class.”


3. The Student Survived the Shot But Died Later at a Local Hospital

The student was rushed to hospital after the shooting. KSAT in San Antonio called the teenager’s condition “undetermined,” but other local media reported that he was alive. The shooting happened just before 10 a.m. local time. The gun was recovered at the scene.


4. His Father Is a Sergeant in the Seguin Police Department

The student is the son of a local cop, according Seguin Sergeant James Springer. Speaking to My San Antonio, Springer said “Right now, we’re trying to give the family some privacy. There is no continuing threat.” The investigation into the incident is being handled by the Seguin police, reports News 4 San Antonio. A Go Fund Me Page for Carlos and Cassie Herrera was set up just after the shooting. The person setting up the page identified Officer Herrera as the father of the
