Ursula Ward is the mother of Odin Lloyd. On April 15, former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez was found guilty of murdering her son in 2013. After the verdict was read out, Hernandez was sentenced to serve the rest of his natural life in prison without the possibility of parole.

As the verdict was read out, Ursula Ward let out a sigh of relief. She sat beside her son’s girlfriend, Shaneah Jenkins. Close to her, Aaron Hernandez’s mother, Terri, and the disgraced star’s girlfriend Shayanna Jenkins, sobbed loudly while Hernandez was found guilty. In her victim impact statement, Ursula Ward said “The day I laid my son to rest — I felt my heart stop beating.” She added “I miss my baby boy so much. I wanted to go into that hole with him.” In conclusion, she said that she forgives Hernandez.

During her testimony, where she was asked to identify her son’s body, Ward was told “not to cry” by Judge E. Susan Garsh. While she was questioned, Ward admitted that she had never met Hernandez, and while her son had plenty of friends over to their Dorchester home, the Patriots star was never there. Just after her son was murdered, Ursula Ward spoke briefly to the New York Times outsider of her home along Fayston Street, she said “I just want my son back. I just want him to be able to rest in peace.”

Ward had previously said that she wanted Hernandez and his accomplices to face “the full weight of justice” for her son’s murder. Hernandez faces a mandatory life in prison for the murder. During her testimony, Ward told the court about how she last saw her son on the day he died as she walked home from church. Lloyd was the eldest of her three children. A neighbor of the family, Genevor Monell, told Boston.com, “That’s her only son. She’s a loving mother. … Yes, we are in the ’hood, but she works hard and raised a good man.”

Odin Lloyd was born to Odin Leonardo John Lloyd and Ursula in Saint Croix, the U.S. Virgin Islands. The family moved to Antigua when Odin Lloyd was a baby before the family moved to Massachusetts. He had two sisters, Olivia Thibou and Shaquilla Thibou, according to Odin Lloyd’s obituary.

5. Aaron Hernandez Was Found Guilty After 36 Hours of Deliberation

On the night of June 17, Aaron Hernandez, along with two other friends, Carlos Ortiz and Ernest Wallace, picked Odin Lloyd up at a hist home in Boston. The victim thought he was going out partying with his friends. In reality, Hernandez drove him to an abandoned lot in North Attleborough, Massachusetts. There, the former Patriots star shot-and-killed his former friend. On July 26, 2013, Hernandez was charged with the crime. It took the jury 36 hours to bring Hernandez in on a guilty verdict. During this process, they never asked the judge a single question about the case or the evidence supplied.
