A seven-state military exercise known as Jade Helm 15 has some Americans fearing that it is actually a government ploy for a federal takeover of states. The New York Times writes: "Jade Helm 15 is an eight-week exercise that has generated paranoia for months fueled by conservative bloggers and Internet postings." Conspiracy theories about Jade Helm 15 spread rapidly across the Internet after plans about the exercise were leaked to the public. According to the Austin American-Statesmen, there was an “explosion of outrage on social media after the release of the map, which labeled Texas, Utah and the southern tip of California as ‘hostile.'”
A military official who went to a Bastrop, Texas, meeting about the exercises was told the government can not be trusted, and that the plan for the exercises is to put martial law in place.
“It’s the same thing that happened in Nazi Germany. You get the people used to the troops on the street, the appearance of uniformed troops and the militarization of the police,” a local resident, Bob Wells, told the Austin newspaper after the meeting. “They’re gathering intelligence. That’s what they’re doing. And they’re moving logistics in place for martial law. That’s my feeling. Now I could be wrong. I hope I am wrong. I hope I’m a ‘conspiracy theorist.’” Click on for the top 5 best conspiracy theories surrounding Jade Helm 15.
