Washington Redskins rookie right guard Brandon Scherff, who struggled more than just little a bit in the preseason, is slated to square off against Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh on Sunday afternoon. Yeah, that same Suh that has established himself as the most ferocious – bordering on vicious – defensive lineman in the entire NFL.
Suh, who signed a six-year, $114.37 million contract with Miami during the offseason, will likely be looking to prove that he’s more than worth the money and he might just end up steam-rolling Scherff along the way. There isn’t really any way for the Redskins to offer their first-round pick extra help either, aside from a bit of blocking assistance from center Kory Lichtensteiger. Right tackle Morgan Moses will have his own hands full, blocking against Dolphis defensive end Cameron Wake and his 11.5 sacks from last season.
The focus for most of this game will be on the Redskins offensive line and its collective ability to offer any kind of protection for Kirk Cousins out of the pocket. It will also be interesting to see if Washington tries to establish a run game early to keep the Dolphins d-line on its toes. If Alfred Morris, who has rushed for over 1,000 yards in each of the last three years, can get going out of the backfield, he could jumpstart the Redskins and maybe give the team a spark, despite their underdog status at home.
