Pope Francis NYC Visit: Traffic Delays, Street Closures & Road Detours

Pope Francis’ visit to the U.S. has been exciting for Americans and now that he’s visiting New York City, there will be some traffic delays, road detours and street closures. For those venturing into NYC or just trying to get around in the city, we’ve got all the information on how to properly navigate through the chaos. Read on below.

The NYPD have put up a full list of the street closures, which you can access online by clicking here. Here are some of the main closures for Thursday below. We will be updating this post with closures for the upcoming days as well.

• 51st Street from Madison Ave. to 5th Avenue
• 5th Avenue from 47th Street to 55th Street
• 48th Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 49th Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 50th Street from 5th Ave. to 6th Avenue (will remained closed until approx. 9 p.m.)
• 51st Street from 5th Ave. to 6th Avenue (will remained closed until approx. 9 p.m.)
• 52nd Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 53rd Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 54th Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 55th Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 5th Avenue from 47th Street to 55th Street
• 48th Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 49th Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue
• 52nd Street from Madison Ave. to 6th Avenue

Additional closures include parts of the FDR. As for train schedules, Metro North will have some changes on Friday, September 25, 2015. It will run three additional inbound trains, leaving Poughkeepsie on the Hudson Line at 10:37 a.m.; Southeast on the Harlem Line at 10:08 a.m.; and Fairfield Metro on the New Haven Line at 11 a.m. according to LoHud.

For the PATH train, there will be extra service on the Journal Square to 33rd Street and Hoboken to 33rd Street lines on Friday.
