Pope Francis is slated to visit the US after Cuba. While in the US, he will visit New York, Philadelphia, and address Congress. But who was the last pope to visit the USA and when?

According to The Huffington Post, the last papal visit to the United States was in 2008 when Pope Benedict XVI met with President George W. Bush at the White House, celebrated mass at both Washington’s Nationals Park and in New York at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and visited the Yankee Stadium.

Benedict XVI was just the second pope to visit the White House. Pope John Paul II, who served before Benedict XVI, visited the US several times throughout his nearly three decade long papacy.

This is Pope Francis’ first visit to the US.
