McBain’s body was found along Greenfield Road in Stephenson County, Illinois, reports WREX. Her body had been charred and she was in her underwear. She was found when the owner of a mobile home went out to clean the outside of his home. The owner described the victim as a “petite female.” WREX confirms that the Stephenson County Coroner’s office is treating her death as a murder.

2. Her Father Committed Suicide in 2007

In an extensive feature on McBain in the Rockford Register Star, it’s mentioned that McBain had a picture of her father on her dresser. The same article says that he committed suicide in 2007. A friend of the family, Amy McLane, commented on the Rockford Police Department Facebook posting about McBain, saying “It’s been extremely hard on the kids (Drea and her brother) since the death of their father a few years ago.” That same Facebook post refers to McBain as an “habitual runaway” but that during previous disappearances, she stayed in some contact with family.

She had one friend lead her down the wrong path, and it was shady all of a sudden.”

McBain’s mother has remarried and has two other sons, aged 12 and 9. She heartbreakingly told the Star “I just keep waiting for her to come through the door.”
