Mikki Bey Eyelash Extensions on ‘Shark Tank’: Interview With CEO

Mikki Bey eyelash extensions entered the Shark Tank on October 2, 2015. Heavy interviewed CEO Mikki Bey and she gave us an insider’s look into her beauty company, that mainly serves women ages 28 to 45. As far as her experience in the Tank went, she told us, “I felt like everything that has ever happened to me prepared me for my moment in the Tank. I was raised to see all people as equals regardless of status. When I walked in, I felt like I was speaking to colleagues which took some of the pressure off.”

Here is what else she told us about…

Eyelash Choices- Mink vs. Synthetic

Clients have the option of choosing mink or synthetic mink eyelash extensions. Mink are the cream of the crop, the Bentley of eyelashes, because they are virtually undetectable. The mink lashes are the most natural option for the person who wants to keep their enhancement a secret. Synthetic lashes are a man-made blend of fibers crafted to emulate mink lashes. You can achieve a natural look with synthetic lashes as well. Synthetic lashes are inherently thicker, darker lashes. If you want very dramatic lashes, choose synthetic over mink lash extensions.

Being a ‘Full-Time Entrepreneur’ in Her MBA Program

I am getting my MBA because I had grown my business as far as common sense would allow. I needed to learn strategy. Business school has expanded my network and resources. As the only full-time entrepreneur in my Executive MBA class, I am able to implement strategies or turnarounds into my business as soon as I learn the material.

Her Licensed Staff

I currently have six employees, five lash artists and one administrator. All of my girls were trained by me. They use a technique I created to cut the time of the application process while ensuring symmetry. All of my artists are licensed estheticians or cosmetologists.

Her Work With the Grammy Awards

The former head of marketing and advertising for The Recording Academy recommended me for GrammyGlam. As a member of the GrammyGlam squad, I wrote articles for Grammy.com as well as posted social media updates on the beauty trends of the nominees and winners. It was truly an honor because I was selected specifically as an eyelash-extensions expert, not for my makeup artistry. It was a great opportunity to bring awareness that eyelash extensions are not just a trend, but rather a new staple in beauty. I was honored to be chosen as one of four elite beauty experts to cover the 2013 Grammys, red carpet and afterparty. It was an amazing experience to say the least.

Plans to Become a Globally Recognized Beauty Brand

I plan to continue building Mikki Bey Eyelash Extensions to become a globally recognized beauty brand. Being an entrepreneur, I have learned to go with the tide, not against it. I will be in this business until that tide changes. I am open to evolution. I don’t want to limit myself or my business’ potential.

Jane

This was just re-aired. No one wants to throw good money after someone so incredibly unstable. What an idiot! Her business was in my neighborhood and closed down last year. She should consider going into something where instability is welcomed, although I can’t imagine what that would be.

Cyberingme

She really blew it when she started to cry.Entrepreneurs aren’t suppose to cry, it makes you look weak. Also, she had too much of an attitude. I knew from the start that she was a goner. And there are too many nail salons all over as it is that put false lashes on, and their cost is probably way more inexpensive than her service is.
