One person was shot and a second person is in custody after shots were fired Tuesday afternoon at the Roosevelt Field Mall in Garden City, New York, according to PIX 11.
The mall, which was crowded with shoppers just days before Christmas, was evacuated.

According to police, the victim was shot in the shoulder outside of the Tourneau Jewelers store in the Long Island mall, PIX 11 reports.
The victim was taken to the hospital and a suspect was taken into custody.
Nassau County Police and witnesses say the shooting is connected to an attempted robbery.
Few details about the incident have been released so far. The shooting was first reported at about 1 p.m.

Garden City schools were put on lockout, according to a tweet from the school district.
“Due to a police incident at Roosevelt Field Mall, ALL SCHOOLS are in a lockout: NO entrance to any school is permitted until further notice,” the school district said.

Posts on social media from shoppers show that the mall was evacuated after the shots were fired. Panicked shoppers fled from the building.
Dozens of ambulances and police vehicles responded, witnesses said.
Roads are blocked in the area.
