Fixed, an app that takes the stress out of getting tickets, entered the Shark Tank on January 15. Users simply take a picture of their ticket and through the app, they are connected with a lawyer. Heavy interviewed David Hegarty about his San Francisco-based business that has expanded to New York and expects to be in more cities in the near future.

How The Idea Came About

I think parking tickets are a big revenue-generating scam, and out of a matter of principle I’ve always contested my parking tickets. However, one time two years ago, I let four tickets build up because I didn’t have time to write the contest letters, so I just paid them. Then when I came back to my car, there were two more tickets on the windshield. I was livid and started to tell me friend, and they interrupted me and suggested I make an app to fix the problem.

How It Works

We’ve tried to make things really really simple. You just take a photo of the ticket, and that’s it. We take care of the rest.

How Much Research Went Into Developing the App

Lots and lots of research went in to understand all the parking rules and regulations. We hired a team of legal researchers to pour through the parking codes.

‘Shark Tank’ Reaching Out

Someone from Shark Tank casting reached out to us… and from then on we were intrigued. We are big fans of the show, but we weren’t always too sure if we were the right fit. But we went through the application process, crossed our fingers, and hoped for the best!
