If you’re looking to buy Powerball tickets online so you don’t have to leave the comfort of your own home, you’ll likely have a tough time. Only two states legally allow residents to buy tickets online: Georgia and Illinois.
Here’s what you need to know.
Because of strict lottery regulations, only Georgia and Illinois currently let residents purchase Powerball tickets online, Forbes reported. You must be a resident of the state in order to purchase a ticket online and you must actually be in the state at the time you are buying the ticket online. There are other restrictions, such as in Illinois you can only buy $150 worth of tickets daily and $1,050 worth of tickets a week.
Michigan is also going to let residents buy Powerball and Mega Millions tickets online and via mobile phone. However, residents won’t be able to buy Powerball tickets in Michigan until January 28, which may be too late for the $1.5 billion drawing if someone wins before then, Forbes reported.
