Reports are coming in of an active shooter at building #26 of the Naval Medical Center in San Diego, California. Could this be the work of the Islamic State or an ISIS-inspired lone wolf?
The Los Angeles reports that “the hospital reported the active shooter just after 8 a.m., prompting staff to advise all non-emergency personnel to stay away from the compound in the 34800 block of Bob Wilson Drive in San Diego.”
No one saw an active shooter, but three sounds that sounded like gunshots were heard by a single witness. In a post on the center’s Facebook page, all occupants were “advised to run, hide or fight.” Previously, people in an active shooter situation were always advised to run or seek shelter. “To fight” is a new response command.
There was no online chatter by ISIS about an alleged San Diego attack. During the San Bernardino Inland Regional Center shooting, Islamic State-affiliated accounts tweeted that they were behind the attack with the hashtag “America_Burning.”
Similar “Paris_is_Burning” tweets were sent out during the November 13 Paris attacks.
