The South Carolina Democratic primary is set for Saturday, February 27. It’s the last primary in either party before Super Tuesday, which takes place on March 1.
Here’s what you need to know about South Carolina’s “First in the South” Democratic primary:
DATE: Saturday, February 27, 2016
POLLING HOURS: Polls are open throughout the state from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Eastern time. Voters who are in line at 7 p.m. will be allowed to vote.
CANDIDATES IN THE RACE: Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders
TYPE OF PRIMARY: South Carolina holds an open primary, meaning any registered voter can vote in one of the two party’s primaries. Voters cannot vote in both party’s primaries.
DELEGATES AT STAKE: 59 delegates
PAST WINNERS: Barack Obama (2008), John Edwards (2004)
KEY ENDORSEMENTS: South Carolina Democrat Rep. James Clyburn has endorsed Clinton. South Carolina Rep. Justin Bamberg endorsed Sanders.
LATEST SOUTH CAROLINA POLLS: RealClear Politics has Clinton with an average of a 24.1 percentage point lead over Sanders.

Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Georgia, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont and Virginia will hold nominating contests. American Samoa will be hosting a caucus as well.
