Despite a strong polling lead for Donald Trump through most of the two weeks up to the caucus, Ted Cruz emerged as the GOP Iowa Caucus winner. Cruz took 28 percent of the Iowa vote to Trump’s 24, with Marco Rubio finishing third with 23.
Beyond Cruz’s outright victory, it’s a great result for Rubio, who was polling a distant third in Iowa throughout the week, finished in third by just 1 point when the race was called for Cruz, and could still overtake Trump for second place.
