Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump will hold a rally in Abingdon, Virginia this afternoon, his third stop in the state during the month of August.
Trump’s rally will take place at the Southwest Virginia Higher Education Center beginning at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time. It can be viewed in the embedded YouTube player via Right Side Broadcasting.
This is not a traditional Trump rally, as it is not open to the public. It comes just about 24 hours after Trump drew criticism for comments he made that seemed to imply violence against Hillary Clinton. He said that “second amendment people” could do something to prevent Hillary Clinton from appointing Supreme Court judges.
In a Fox News interview on Tuesday night, Trump said that he was referring to second amendment advocates organizing to vote against Hillary Clinton in November.
“There can be no other interpretation,” Trump said. “Even reporters have told me. I mean, give me a break.”
Trump actually held another rally on Tuesday shortly after making those controversial comments, but he made no reference to the outrage during the event.
Virginia is a key battleground state in the 2016 election. Recent polls have shown Clinton has a substantial lead over Trump in the state, with one YouGov poll putting her 12 points ahead of Trump. Real Clear Politics‘ polling average shows that Clinton maintains an average lead of seven points over Trump. And according to FiveThirtyEight, Nate Silver’s election forecast website, Clinton has an 87.7 percent chance of winning Virginia.
