Vanessa Marcotte was a 27-year-old Google employee from New York City who was murdered while jogging near her mother's home in Princeton, Massachusetts while there for a visit. No suspect has been identified in Marcotte's death, and authorities were investigating whether she was sexually assaulted. News reports said that Marcotte was found naked and with parts of her body burned. Marcotte was the second east coast jogger to be found murdered in less than a week. Karina Vetrano was murdered while jogging in a marshland area in Queens, New York near Howard Beach. Vetrano, like Marcotte, was a young, vivacious professional woman from New York, but authorities investigating the Marcotte death said they have found nothing to tie the two killings together. Marcotte had gone for a Sunday job in the afternoon and didn't return; her body was found a few hours later in a wooded area. Marcotte was a Google account manager and a Boston University graduate. It was Princeton's first murder in 30 years, said New York Magazine. A special tip line was created as police called for the community's help in solving the murder. On Instagram, Marcotte posted many photos of her travels, healthy eating, and outings with friends and family members. Officials said the death appears to be a homicide and one commented that the set of facts were horrific. Police told the news media that they aren't certain whether Marcotte was randomly attacked or knew her murderer. "Vanessa Marcotte was a much loved member of the Google team, working in our New York office for the last year and a half, and known for her ubiquitous smile, passion for volunteer work and love of Boston sports," Google said in a statement, echoing friends who recalled Marcotte's kind and friendly spirit.
