VOA News reporter Jafar Haand is reporting that the Afghanistan Embassy in Washington, DC reportedly “doubts” that New York, New Jersey bombing suspect Ahmad Khan Rahami is an Afghan citizen.

What citizenship beyond American they believe Rahami holds is currently unknown.

Rahami is an American citizen who was born in Afghanistan in 1988, according to a wanted poster released on the morning of September 19 by the FBI.

CNN reported that Rahami made regular trips to Afghanistan, the Middle East, and other countries over the last few years.

During one of these trips, USA Today reports that “Rahami filed paperwork to bring his wife to the US in 2011 and it was approved the following year.”

CNN reports that Rahami’s wife left the US a few days before the bombings.

NBC New York reports that a fingerprint found on one of the explosives led to Rahami being identified as one of the suspects.
