Simple stuffing is the best stuffing in our opinion. Here is an easy recipe your family and friends will love. We prefer to not only stuff our bird with it, but also make extra to serve as a side dish on our Thanksgiving table. It’s tastes just as good warmed up the next day, so be sure to have some for leftovers as well!
You will need these 5 ingredients:
2 medium onions, diced
4 stalks of celery, peeled and diced
1 loaf of bread, diced (You can use any type of bread or baguette. We prefer white bread, but you can use wheat or grain as well. You can also combine multiple kinds of bread. Keep in mind that staler loaves are more effective.)
2 cups of milk Use whole milk for a richer, creamier taste.
1/4 stick of butter
To prepare the stuffing:
1. Sautee the onions and celery at medium heat with butter. Sweat the mixture for 10 minutes. Do not brown.
2. In a mixing bowl, add the diced bread.
3. Add the celery and onion mixture to the bread and then add milk. Stir gently until well mixed and the bread is coated evenly.
4. Add salt and pepper to taste.
Note: You can also change up the vegetables used and include ones like carrots or sweet potatoes. Others prefer using fruit like apples, cranberries, raisins or citrus zest. As for spices, cooks also like to use garlic and chives.
