Starbucks has officially released its 2016 holiday cup line — and it is a line, rather than a single cup design. The company used designs that customers actually came up with last year, using the ever-controversial red cups as canvases. There are 13 cups in all; an unlucky number, maybe, but Starbucks doesn’t seem concerned.
“We hope that this year’s red holiday cup designs express the shared spirit of the holidays as told by our customers,” said Sharon Rothstein, Starbucks global chief marketing officer, in a statement.
According to the statement, Starbucks received over 1,200 art submissions for their 2016 cup collection.
“We were surprised and inspired by the amount of incredible art submitted by our customers. The designs were beautiful, expressive and engaging,” said Dena Blevins, creative director of Starbucks Global Creative Studio, said in the statement. “We quickly realized there was potential to use the customer-created art for our holiday cups.”
