A month into his presidency, Donald Trump is still seeing approval ratings under 50 percent. A new NBC News/SurveyMonkey poll released on February 22 shows that 43 percent of those polled approve of Trump’s job as president. That’s better than another poll released last week, but it still shows 54 percent disapproving of his performance.
The poll was conducted between February 13 and February 19, with 11,512 adults 18 and over responding. Of those polled, just 25 percent strongly approved of Trump’s performance, while 43 percent strongly disapprove.

The most recent Gallup poll shows Trump’s approval rating at 41 percent. The latest Rasmussen Reports poll has Trump’s approval at 50 percent from likely voters.
Eighty percent of those polled in the NBC News poll believe that “Americans are greatly divided when it comes to the most important values.”
The poll also shows Americans increasingly worried about another major war is coming within Trump’s first term. Thirty-six percent are worried that a war will happen, and 30 percent are somewhat worried. Just eight percent are not worried at all.
As NBC News notes though, the party divide shows up even in the question about war. While 88 percent of Democrats and Democrat-leaning respondents fear a war taking place in the next four years, 60 percent of Republicans and Republican-leaners are not worried.
And while Trump might have questions about NATO’s effectiveness, 80 percent believe that it is good for the U.S. to be a member of the group. Trump’s Vice President, Mike Pence, had to assure European allies over the weekend that Trump is still supporting NATO.
There is also a belief among the Republicans polled that Russia can be considered a friendly ally. Fifty percent of Republicans polled think Russia is friendly, while 49 percent think the country is not. Seventy-six percent of Democrats think Russia is an unfriendly enemy. Overall, 43 percent of those polled think Russia is unfriendly and 18 percent believe Russia is an enemy.
While Republicans in Congress have vowed to repeal the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, this NBC News poll shows that 52 percent have a very favorable or somewhat favorable view of it. Only 22 percent want the entire act repealed, while 46 percent want only parts of it repealed.
Also noteworthy is the public’s faith in the American judicial system that Trump has been so critical of. Sixty percent have some confidence or a great deal of confidence in the judicial system.
Congress’ approval ratings are even worse than anything Trump has seen yet. Only 42 percent have a strongly or somewhat favorable impression of Congressional Democrats. Just 39 percent have a strongly or somewhat favorable view of Congressional Republicans.
