What is Lady Gaga’s real name? Gaga was born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta.

So, how did Germanotta end up being called Lady Gaga? In an interview with Flybe Magazine, she said that music producer Rob Fusari was the first person to ever call her Gaga, after the Queen song “Radio GaGa.” Fusari was Germanotta’s boyfriend at the time, according to She Knows. Lady Gaga recalled:

He started to call me GaGa when I’d come into the studio. When we were getting ready to really start performing, I decided that I’d been playing under my real name for so long I wanted a new way to reinvent myself. So I said, what about Lady GaGa, because Gaga is sort of crazy and Lady has such connotations.

She continued:

I went to a private school but now I was living in this trash glitter environment. So, for me, it was the perfect description of who I had become.

Apparently, Fusari had a different take on the situation and Gossip Why Fame reported that Fusari sued Lady Gaga in 2010 for $35 million. She Knows reports that the legal papers from the lawsuit stated:

One day when Fusari addressed a cell phone text to Germanotta under the moniker ‘Radio Gaga’ his cell phone’s spell check converted ‘Radio’ to ‘Lady’. Germanotta loved it, and ‘Lady Gaga’ was born.

While Gaga’s latest album is titled “Joanne”, one would think it’s because of her middle name, but it’s actually named after Joanne Germanotta, her late aunt. Perhaps Lady Gaga’s middle name comes from her aunt as well. Gaga’s aunt died of lupus before she was even born and Telegraph reports that Gaga stated in 2011:

I never met her, but she’s been one of the most important figures in my life.

Gaga had also said:

She had instilled her spirit in me. She was a painter and a poet – and I had a spiritual vision I had to finish her business.

One of Gaga’s late aunt’s unpublished poems “For a Moment” is in the album booklet of her first album, “The Fame” in 2008. The poem reads:

And then I was my reflection on,

The mirror-like surface of the lake,

And for a moment …

I was the only living creature around.

After her Super Bowl performance tonight, on Monday, Gaga is reported to be announcing details about her Joanne World Tour.
