Authorities in Dusseldorf, Germany responded to a report of an “ax attack” at the city’s train station March 9.
The suspect, who reportedly acted alone, went on a rampage and attacked at least seven people. Police said they don’t think any of the victims suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of the attack.
The alleged attacker, who Deutsche Welle reported is a 36-year-old man “from the former Yugoslavia,” was transported to a hospital with severe injuries. Police in Dusseldorf said that the suspect appears to have “psychological problems.” The attack does not appear to be related to terrorism.
Among those injured was a 13-year-old girl, whose wound was treated by a witness on the scene, The Rheinisch Post reported.
Sources told Bild, a German newspaper, that the suspect ran from police, leaping from a bridge before police apprehended him. The newspaper wrote that the suspect was seriously wounded when he jumped.
