The elderly female victim slammed into the concrete ground and tossed into a pool in a disturbing video that’s gone viral suffered a series of injuries from the incident.

Nancy James, 68, has been identified as the woman who was walking her two dogs in North Lauderdale, Florida at an apartment complex pool when she was unexpectedly was picked up by a teenager and slammed to the ground. The male, later identified by reports as 16-year old Leon Balfour Jr., then forcibly picked her up by her arms and legs and threw her into the nearby pool while a large crowd looked on.

James was reportedly “terrified” by the incident, but is expected to make a recovery from the injuries she suffered.

Here’s what you need to know:

1. James Asked the Group to Turn Down Their Music

In the video, James enters the pool area to what looks to be a raucous party at the Players Place Apartment Complex in North Lauderdale. With her two dog leashes in hand, she appears to point and ask a few of the partygoers to turn down their loud music.

Suddenly, she is picked up by Balfour, who slams her to the concrete ground. It’s unclear if Balfour slipped and fell while hoisting James up into the air, or if he intended on slamming her to the ground.

But James crashes to the ground with Balfour and she lays motionless for a brief moment. Then, a chant of “throw her in” the pool are heard from the surrounding crowd and Balfour abides.

He gets up, picks up James forcibly — with at least one dog leash still attached to her wrist — and throws her into the pool.

The person who took the original video runs away from the party with the rest of the crowd, who is heard laughing and in shock at what just occurred.

According to an incident report filed by the Broward County Sheriff’s Department, James and a friend, Mitchelle Lozano, typically watch over the complex’s amenities, such as the pool area and tennis courts.

The report said that James had her cell phone and house key fob in her pocket when she was thrown into the pool. She reportedly had called the authorities on a loud noise complaint, but they didn’t arrive by the time she confronted the large group at the pool.

James, who is on the apartment complex’s association board, said that she asked the party to turn down the music because she heard several complaints from other neighbors about the noise level.

“Kids are kids, no matter what,” she said. “They’re going to have parties, just lower the music.”

2. James Suffered a Series of Injuries From the Scuffle

James suffered multiple injuries in the scuffle, but nothing that appears to be life threatening.

She had bruises on her shoulder and leg and initially refused to go to the emergency room at a nearby hospital. However, neighbors told Local 10 News that she ended up doing so and was released Monday morning.

In the incident report, the officer described James as being “very frightened and upset.” She was reportedly drenched with water from her shoulders down to her feet and had a “fresh bruise” on her right leg and another on her left shoulder when examined by medical personnel.

A friend of James’ told NBC 6 that she had recently undergone hip surgery.

James initially opted to not speak with the media after the incident, but ended up doing so to Local 10 News and a couple of other outlets. She said that she was shocked as to what happened, especially with Balfour being so young.

“No one should ever, ever, ever, ever, have to go through that, you know?” James said to Local 10 News. “It just shouldn’t happen. The kid has not evolved yet into what you’re supposed to be as a human being.”

She said she feels a little sore from the injuries she suffered, but is happy knowing that Balfour will likely learn his lesson.

“Black and blue, but you know what, he’s not gonna ever do this to anyone else,” she said to 7News.

3. Balfour Turned Himself Into Authorities on May 8

Balfour, who lives in Margate, surrendered to police May 8 and has reportedly been charged with battery on a person 65 years or older, 7News WSVN reported.

The Miami Herald reported that Balfour was accompanied by his mother and his lawyer while he turned himself in.

He was processed at the Broward County Juvenile Assessment Center before being transported to the Broward Regional Juvenile Facility.

Balfour attends Coral Springs High School, about 10 minutes from where the incident occurred.

4. The Pool Party Had Hundreds of People Attending

Reports say that there were about 200 people at the pool party at the apartment complex, many of whom were teenagers.

It didn’t appear like those in attendance at the party were residents at the complex, rather congregated at to the pool area for an impromptu party.

The hashtag #BlockBoyzPoolParty on Twitter shows that the party may have been organized through social media.

There have been other pool parties planned using the hashtag with posters advertising the event saying that it’s “free” to attend and at a “secret location.”

Witnesses and neighbors at the complex were in disbelief at what happened at the place they call home.

One resident, Stacey Gaudrau, told 7News that she could have been the one to get assaulted instead of James.

“If it got too late, I probably would have gone over there and tell them to turn it down,” Gaudrau said. “It could have been me. It could have been me. I could have gone over there, and it could have been me.”
