Trump Fires Comey: All the Memes You Need to See

The full statement regarding Trump's dismissal of Comey can be read here. Attorney General Jeff Sessions and Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein both recommended Comey's removal. Sessions told Trump in a letter that he believes "a fresh start is needed at the leadership of the FBI" and that he recommends a new "experienced and qualified individual to lead the great men and women of the FBI." Rosenstein added that he couldn't defend Comey's handling of Clinton's emails. Democratic opposition have described the move as "Nixonian," a reference to the so-called "Saturday Night Massacre." In the midst of the Watergate scandal investigation, Nixon dismissed independent special prosecutor Archibald Cox, which resulted in the resignations of Attorney General Elliot Richardson and Deputy Attorney General William Ruckelshaus.
