Seahawks vs Cardinals Preview

The season has not gone as planned for the Seattle Seahawks but the team is looking to play spoiler against the Cardinals, who are looking to improve their playoff positioning in the final week of the season.

The Cardinals are currently the No. 5 seed and could move up depending on a few games. If Arizona wins and the Rams lose against the 49ers, the Cardinals would win the NFC West, giving them a shot at improving their seeding. There’s a chance Arizona could move all the way up to the No. 2 seed if the Rams and Buccaneers lose. There’s a chance they either see the Cowboys or Bucs in the first round, which would be a tough draw.

The Cardinals snapped a three-game skid with a 25-22 win against Dallas last time out and would rather not see the Cowboys again any time soon.

“I would rather not,” Kingsbury said. “Just excited to be in the playoffs, so whoever it ends up (being), we’ll take it. (But) it’s tough to beat anybody twice in this league.”

A matchup against a division rival is never as easy task and the Seahawks are coming off a 51-29 explosion in a win against the Lions.

“This team just scored 51 points and has played everybody tough, even the losses,” Kingsbury said Monday. “We know they lost Russ for a while, which was tough on them, but one of the most competitive teams over the last decade.

“Coach Carroll is one of the all-time great coaches, Russ is one of the best quarterbacks in the league. We’re not looking at anything other than the Seahawks.”

Wilson had one of his most efficient games of the season in the win against Detroit, completing 20 of 29 passes with four touchdowns. There are rumors that it could be his last game wearing a Seahawks uniform, although he made it pretty clear he wants to stay in Seattle.

“What I’m really super passionate about, obviously my goal is to win more Super Bowls,’’ Wilson said. “And my plan is to win them here. It’s that simple. There’s really nothing else out there other than that.”

The Seahawks will be without defensive stalwart Bobby Wagner, who is dealing with a knee injury.

“He’s got some swelling and it just didn’t loosen up enough,” coach Pete Carroll said. “He’s got a tight knee so he can’t do it. If he could, if there was any way, he would. He can’t.”

Wagner is a six-time first-team All-Pro and there are whispers that the that the team could move on from him.

“I would love Bobby to play here forever,” Carroll said. “He’s been as solid as you could ever want a player to be and we’ve kind of grown up as Seahawks together here in this program over the years and I’d love for him to be here. I don’t see why we’d be thinking anything else.”

The Cardinals are a 5.5-point favorite for the matchup.
