YouTube star and daredevil Casey Neistat filmed himself and friend Jesse Wellens from the channels PrankvsPrank and BFvsGF, skiing and snowboarding through the streets of New York City during Winter Storm Jonas. This was definitely a situation of “don’t try this at home, kids” as the Governor of New York Andrew Cuomo had initiated a travel ban on all public roads in Manhattan at the time.
The video opens with NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio announcing in a press conference that any civilians driving while the travel ban is in effect would be subject to arrest. Brazenly, we cut to the wheels of a Jeep Wrangler charging through the several inches of snow that have already fallen on the streets. What follows are many scenes of Casey, Jesse, and friends on both snowboards and skis. They rip through the avenues of NYC’s boroughs at an alarming speed behind the Jeep while a remix of Frank Sinatra’s ode to Manhattan “New York New York” plays. Dean Neistat and Oscar Boyson are also featured. A highlight includes two of the guys skiing through Times Square while one holds an American flag.
The group is ultimately pulled over by a police officer in a cruiser. The cop lets them go with a warning, saying “Someone complained about ya, so we’re just gonna act like we’re talkin’ to ya, alright?” Jesse responds with, “You guys are awesome.” We’re not sure whether the NYPD will consider this good PR or bad PR.
If you want to see how Neistat and his band of merry pranksters made this happen, check out their “Behind the Scenes” video from Jesse’s YouTube channel BFvsGF below.
Behind the Scenes – Snowboarding Through NYC
We see the drones and portable video equipment used to capture the crazy shots of Jesse and Casey from all angles in the snowy streets. Watch for when everyone’s cell phones go off with an Emergency Alert about the road closures. Giving themselves an hour, they plan to keep shooting. Looks like they went over time!
