Depending on the size of the space, you might want to consider a combination of floor lamps and desk lamps. If your student has to be in a quad-space, clip on lamps could be a better answer for studying late, without disturbing anyone else. (Keeping the peace in shared spaces is also important to ensure academic success.)

Lighting may be the least of your worries as your kid starts college, but great lights can save them from eye strain and keep their space cheery and bright when they're bogged down with term papers and finals.

Don't forget they'll also need lots of snacks. You might also want to get your student a bento box to load up for late nights at the library, while they're grabbing a meal at the cafeteria. They can slip it into an insulated lunch box and be set to go for an early morning study session too.

Keep your kid cool and consider LED lamps over incandescent options. They put off very little heat, even after hours of use. String lights are another great way to enhance a dreary dorm and keep it looking bright and cheery.
