Katrine Saltara: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

The wife of Indiana Pacers player Chris Copeland was stabbed during an attack at a New York nightclub. She’s been named by police as 28-year-old Katrine Saltara. He was in town to play the Knicks at Madison Square Garden on April 8. A native of New Jersey, Copeland played for the Knicks during the 2012/13 season.

1. The Melee Allegedly Began When Copeland & Saltara Were Arguing on the Street

ABC New York reports that the fracas began when Saltara and Copeland were arguing on the street. The station says that another man, 22-year-old Sharoy Blery Murdock allegedly got involved which is when the stabbing occurred.

The stabbing happened outside of the 1 OAK nightclub in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, reports the New York Daily News. The club caters to an exclusive celebrity clientele. Also there with Copeland and his wife were Atlanta Hawks players Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha. Those two were due to play the Brooklyn Nets at the Barclays Center on April 8. Pacers President of Basketball Operations Larry Bird issued a brief statement on the incident saying “We are aware that Chris Copeland was injured early this morning in New York City. We are still gathering information and will update when we know more. Our thoughts are with Chris and those injured.” Meanwhile, a Hawks statement read “We are aware of the situation involving Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha this morning. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have further comment at the appropriate time.”

Copeland, his wife, and another woman, 53-year-old Catherine Somani, were all stabbed at around 4 a.m. just as the club was closing, reports CBS New York. All are in stable condition in New York hospitals. The New York Post reports that Saltara was “slashed” in her “breast, buttocks and arm.”

According to her Facebook page, Saltara and Copeland became engaged on September 13, 2013. In a Facebook posting, she thanks former New York Knicks player Raymond Felton for helping to pull off the proposal. Copeland referred to Saltara as his fiancee in a bizarre Twitter posting from December 2013. The couple have a dog together named Bronx.


4. She Used to Model With Her Sister

She went to high school Fashion Industries in Manhattan as well as graduating from John Jay College in 2010, according to her Facebook page. On her page, she says that her and Copeland have been together since 2012. Saltara is a native of New York City, Copeland is originally from West Orange, New Jersey. In 2011, she and her sister Corina, appeared in a sexy modeling shoot in Las Vegas. Their profile, the “Saltara Sisters” has since been deleted from Model Mayhem.


5. A Couple of Atlanta Hawks Players Were Arrested in the Melee

The NYPD have arrested a suspect in the stabbings of Copeland and Saltara. He’s been named by the New York Daily News as 22-year-old Shezoy Bleary. The newspaper reports that he’s a friend of Somani’s and that she was stabbed by accident. Pero Antic and Thabo Sefolosha were also arrested at the scene, accused of obstructing an investigation.
