Bryce Harper and longtime girlfriend Kayla Varner had a very public relationship that led to very public wedding plans. But, the wedding never happened and the two have since remained tight-lipped.

The Washington Nationals star and Ohio State soccer player are both Las Vegas natives and dated for about four years before their presumed split.

Here’s what you need to know about Varner:

1. Varner and Harper’s Engagement Photos Were Leaked in May

Varner and Harper’s patriotic and baseball-themed engagement photos were leaked by the photographer before they announced their wedding plans. But, the couple did confirm them shortly after.

2. The Couple Was Supposed to Marry in January, 2015

The couple’s wedding was supposed to take place in San Diego on January 2 and 3, with one of the ceremonies taking place in a Mormon temple to follow Harper’s religion, according to the Washington Post.

Varner posted a picture from her bridal shower on her Instagram, and STITCHED posted pictures of Harper getting fitted for a tux on theirs. Both can be seen below.

3. Varner Was the Nevada High School Player of the Year in 2009 & 2011

Varner played soccer for Green Valley High School in Henderson, Nevada. She was named the Nevada High School Player of the Year in 2009 and 2011, according to Busted Coverage.

She did her first two years of college at Brigham Young University before transferring to Ohio State.

4. OSU’s Women’s Soccer Team Finished 6-10-3 in Varner’s Senior Season


OSU’s women’s soccer team finished the 2014-15 season — Varner’s last one — with a 6-10-3 record.

Varner, a forward, started all 19 games and had three goals and four assists. She went 2-for-2 on penalty kicks and had one game-winner.

5. Varner Replaced Harper With Her Dog, Wrigley

Varner got a dog, named Wrigley, for her birthday in November.

While she doesn’t say who her “pup” is from, he seems to have taken over Harper’s place on her social media.
