American Pharoah will start the Kentucky Derby from the No. 17 post position on Saturday, with no horse having ever won the race from that starting gate. That stat, however, hasn’t caused American Pharoah to drop out of the top spot on the odds to win the Kentucky Derby at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com.

American Pharoah sits as the 13/5 favorite on the Kentucky Derby odds at the sportsbooks, and horse racing experts have liked what they’ve seen from him leading up to the race – including his impressive showing at Oaklawn Park.

Dortmund is the second-favorite on the Kentucky Derby odds at 7/2, and shares a trainer with American Pharoah in Bob Baffert. Dortmund also has a more desirable gate for Saturday as he’ll be starting from the No. 8 post position. Carpe Diem, who rounds out the top tier of contenders for the Derby, is pegged at 17/2 odds to win the race at the online sportsbooks.

And those digging a little deeper for their Kentucky Derby picks for Saturday could be checking out the 12/1 Mubtaahij, who won by eight lengths in the UAE Derby, or the 16/1 Firing Line, whose jockey Gary Stevens has won eight Triple Crown races in his career.
