The owner of Todd A. Pletcher Racing Stables, Inc. has trained some of the top horses of the past decade and is looking to get a win in Saturday’s Kentucky Derby, the first leg of the 2015 Triple Crown.

Pletcher has 3 horses in the 2015 Kentucky Derby: Carpe Diem, Materiality and Itsaknockout.

Carpe Diem has been given the best odds of the three at 17/2.

Materiality is at 16/1 and Itsaknockout 33/1.



2. He Has 3 Triple Crown Wins

Pletcher certainly has had a decorated career, claiming 6 Eclipse Awards as Top Trainer in 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2010 and last year.

He also led trainers in purse earnings from 2004-06.

Pletcher has 23 New York State Training titles, including 5 straight (2002-06) at Saratoga Race Track.

Pletcher’s success should come as no surprise as he’s been around horses his entire life. Literally.

He began as a hot walker at age 7 for his father Jake in Texas.

As a teen, Pletcher would go to California, where he worked as a hot walker for Henry Moreno at Hollywood Park and Del Mar Racetracks.

A hot walker is a person who walks the hot, sweaty horses after a workout.

Pletcher is married to wife Tracy and the couple has 3 children. They live on Long Island in New York.

He graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Animal Science in May 1989. Pletcher went right to New York to begin working as a groomer for trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
