Manchester United host Tony Pulis’ West Bromwich Albion at Old Trafford in the Premier League’s late kick-off this Saturday, May 2nd. With Liverpool losing to Hull mid-week, a win for Louis van Gaal’s men would all but secure Champions League football for next season, while keeping the pressure on Arsenal and Manchester City in the battle for 2nd and 3rd in the table. The Dutchman has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be fit for Saturday, while Michael Carrick will be assessed before the game. Defensively, United are looking a little thin: both Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are doubts, while Johnny Evans and Luke Shaw are definitely out.
While West Brom sit 13th in the table, they still aren’t mathematically safe from relegation, with seven points separating them from 18th placed Sunderland, who have a game in hand. In addition to their trip to Old Trafford this Saturday, the Baggies also face Chelsea at home and Arsenal away in their final four games, with a trip to Newcastle the only fixture that would be considered eminently winnable. Tony Pulis will be hoping for at least four points from West Brom’s remaining games to ensure safety: expect a scrappy, defensive display on Saturday.
