At the ripe age of 18-years-old, Alexander Emmanuel Rodriguez officially made his Major League debut with the Seattle Mariners on July 8, 1994 against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Rodriguez was one of the most highly touted players in Major League history, dubbed a prodigy for his high school play at Westminster Christian High School and performance for Team USA at the World Junior Championship in 1992. A-Rod reached the Majors shortly after he was drafted 1st overall in the 1993 MLB Draft.
A-Rod has been a controversial figure throughout his career; due to his stature, he has always been under a microscope by his friends, family, peers, teammates, fans and the baseball media. He has signed some of the most expensive contracts in baseball history and been involved in several performance-enhancing drug scandals over the years.
Rodriguez is a polarizing figure, but an all-time great player, and now has a chance to become a member of the 3,000 Hit Club. He is also a 14-time All-Star, 3-time American League Most Valuable Player, 2-time Gold Glove Award Winner and 2009 World Series Champion.
