Once again, teams hit the field with trade rumors swirling. In lieu of power arms today, the lineup is filled with power bats. Although if your going to go for an arm, Chris Sale comes with a hefty $13,200 price tag. He’s probably worth it, but going a different route can lead to big payoffs if done correctly. By not taking Sale, you can fill out your roster with some of the top hitters by position.
On the the lineup:
Today’s Pitchers: Pineda & Miller
Pineda is hoping to end July like he started it, when he gave up just one run in his first two starts against Boston and Tampa. New York’s bats should stay hot tonight, so Pineda should get enough support to get that all-important W. Pineda has given up nine runs in his previous two starts, but that should change tonight in Texas.
EDIT: If Miguel Pineda is scratched from tonight’s start, the replacement pitcher would be A.J. Burnett.
Miller isn’t cheap, but he’s less than Sale and still a strong play. Although he hasn’t recorded a win since June 13th, Miller has been strong in July. He gave up just one run or less in five starts since that win, and Miller has pitched well enough against the Phillies in the past to earn the nod.
Featured Hitters: Kang & Peterson
Today’s hitters have been performing well recently, but in this instance it’s more about the opposing pitchers. The Phillies skipped Aaron Harang’s rehab start in AAA, effectively making today a rehab start for Harang. Harang hasn’t pitched since July 1st, and had lost eight straight starts before going on the DL. That’s good for the aforementioned Miller and Jace Peterson, who’s been cold lately but could break out if this game gets out of hand.
In Cincinnati, David Holmberg will get the first crack at filling Johnny Cueto’s spot in the Red’s rotation. Holmberg hasn’t been great in AAA this season, so look for Kang and the Pirates to have a great day at the plate today.
Turn $3 into $800 with DraftKings’ MLB $10K Deep Moonshot fantasy contest, which gets underway tonight at 7:05 p.m. Eastern.
