Marcus Mariota 7-of-11 99 yards, 3 rushes for 21 yards
Marcus Mariota’s third preseason game was not overwhelmingly impressive. While he did not make critical errors like turning the ball over, the offense sputtered during the beginning of the game. Mariota played for the first half and finished 7-of-11 for 99 yards. Here is everything you need to know about Marcus Mariota’s third preseason game:
Mariota Played the Entire First Half With Mixed Results
Mariota did finish strong, but still has areas he needs to improve. He failed to help ignite the offense early, but did gain an early 21 yards rushing on three quarterback runs. Backup quarterback Zack Mettenberger came in to start the 3rd quarter. It will be interesting to see how much the Titans decide to play him in the final preseason game.
Mariota Got Off to a Slow Start
Mariota got off to a bit of a slow start along with the rest of the Titans team. However, he was effective with his legs, picking up 21 rushing yards on three caries. There was also a play midway through the second quarter where Mariota was sacked. After the lineman stared down over Mariota, he jumped off the ground to get in the face of the lineman. It showed Mariota’s competitive spirit.
The Titans intercepted the ball late in the second quarter which allowed the offense to take over with good field position. Mariota marched the team down the field and the drive ended with a short rushing touchdown by Antonio Andrews.
The Fantasy Impact of Marcus Mariota’s Third Preseason Game
Mariota’s performance against the Chiefs did nothing to garner fantasy players confidence in using a high selection to draft him. They most likely won’t be eyeing Marcus Mariota until one of the later rounds of fantasy drafts. The only exception would be those playing in two quarterback leagues. It’s worth continuing to monitor Mariota’s preseason as his dual threat capabilities could be worth a late-round flyer.
