Roberta Vinci is happy. Really and truly happy. The 32-year-old tennis standout from Italy is making her first-ever Grand Slam semifinal appearance, riding a wave of success in this year's US Open that has her seriously considering naming Flushing as her favorite place in the world. Has Vinci's road to the semi been relatively easy? Sure. Any ranked player she could have potentially faced was either upset in early rounds or were forced to withdraw from the tournament. That only seems fair though as, now, Vinci will face her biggest test of the Open, taking on World No. 1 Serena Williams in primetime. Vinci is the underdog. For sure. But she's also an interesting matchup for Williams amidst her quest for a calendar Grand Slam. Click through the gallery to learn more about Vinci and her road to possible upset. (Twitter)
