Panthers Stay Perfect After Dismantling Redskins at Home
The Carolina Panthers are 10-0, and don’t look to be slowing down anytime soon after defeating the Redskins at home, 44-16. Panthers quarterback Cam Newton went 21-34 for 246 yards and five touchdowns in the win.
In a game that started off fast and looked to be a back-and-forth affair, the Panthers and Redskins traded touchdowns twice in the first quarter, including a 99-yard kickoff return for a touchdown by Andre Roberts, and it was tied at 14 apiece after one.
Then, Newton and the Panthers took control quickly, rattling off 30 straight points over the remainder of the game before a safety at the very end by Washington ended the run. Newton maestro-ed the Carolina offense masterfully; Carolina controlled the ball for more than 38 minutes as opposed to Washington’s 21:50 time of possession.
Washington quarterback Kirk Cousins was held in check by the Carolina defense after the fast start, finishing 22-30 for 207 yards, a touchdown and an interception. DeSean Jackson led the way for Redskins receivers, hauling in five catches for 87 yards, including a long 56-yard touchdown.
Jonathan Stewart had 21 carries for 102 yards on the ground for the Panthers, who are undefeated and stayed on track on their quest for perfection.
